ESAKI JIU JITSU ACADEMY

Since our establishment in 2017, we have remained dedicated to providing Kauai with a meticulously structured, technically focused, and uplifting training environment. Our core mission revolves around enriching the lives of our students through the art and sport of Jiu Jitsu, fostering enhanced self-confidence, improved health, fitness, and discipline. We wholeheartedly believe in the multitude of advantages that the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle offers and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to share its transformative power with our community.

Evan Esaki

Founder and Head Instructor

Evan Esaki, a Kauai native, graduated from Kapaa High School before moving to California where he started his jiu-jitsu training. Evan began training with Renato Magno at Street Sports, where he crossed paths with his now co-head instructor, Ian Delizo. In 2012, Evan joined AOJ (Art of Jiu-Jitsu) and worked as a coach and competitor. he progressed from a blue to a black belt under the Mendes Brothers' guidance.

Evan returned to Kauai and opened Esaki Jiu-Jitsu Academy in February 2017.

Ian Delizo

Co-Head Instructor

Ian Delizo, originally from Maui and raised in Oahu, began his martial arts journey after graduating from Kaimuki High School. He moved to California, where he played football for the Santa Monica Corsairs and studied kinesiology.

Ian's introduction to jiu-jitsu took place at Street Sports under Renato Magno's guidance, where he met Evan. Seeking further growth, he joined the Mendes Brothers at AOJ (Art of Jiu-Jitsu) in Costa Mesa.

At AOJ, Ian not only competed but also coached the Kids 3-5 program and adult classes, earning his black belt under the Mendes Brothers. In February 2019, he moved to Kauai and now leads the Esaki Jiu Jitsu Adults Basics Program and the Kids 4-7 program at Esaki Jiu-Jitsu Academy

Code Of Conduct

  1. ALWAYS BE RESPECTFUL.

  2. NO COACHING YOUR CHILDREN OR OTHER STUDENTS DURING CLASS.

  3. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING PROFANE LANGUAGE INSIDE THE ACADEMY.

  4. IF YOU ARE LATE FOR CLASS, PLEASE WAIT OUTSIDE THE MAT UNTIL THE PROFESSOR GIVES YOU PERMISSION TO JOIN.

  5. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE MAT DURING CLASS WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE PROFESSOR OR COACH.

  6. WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR IS DEMONSTRATING THE TECHNIQUES, STUDENTS MUST SIT OR STAND IN GOOD POSTURE.

  7. PLEASE REMOVE FOOTWEAR BEFORE ENTERING THE MAT AREA.

  8. PLEASE USE THE WIPES NEXT TO THE MAT TO CLEAN YOUR FEET BEFORE ENTERING THE MAT AREA.

  9. ALL WHITE GIS ONLY.

  10. NOGI UNIFORM: STUDENTS MUST WEAR RASHGUARD MATERIAL TOPS AND MEN MUST WEAR NON-TIGHT, MMA/NOGI-SPECIFIC SHORTS WITHOUT ANY METAL, HARD PLASTIC, OR OTHER TYPES OF HARD MATERIAL THAT MAY SCRATCH THE MAT. SPATS/LEGGINGS RECOMMENDED. ALL MEMBERS MUST WEAR TIGHT UNDERWEAR UNDER THEIR SHORTS.

  11. PLEASE ONLY BRING WASHED TRAINING UNIFORMS FOR NOGI EVEN IF THEY ARE BRAND-NEW, JUST PURCHASED; NOT ONLY FOR HYGIENE, BUT TO ALSO AVOID BLEEDING CLOTHING DYE ONTO THE MATS.

  12. ALL JEWELRY, PIERCINGS, NECKLACES AND OTHER ITEMS SHOULD BE REMOVED BEFORE TRAINING.

  13. PLEASE KEEP FINGERNAILS AND TOENAILS NEATLY TRIMMED.

  14. SHOES, FOOD, DRINK AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE MAT.

  15. NO FILMING OF SPARRING OR TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION.

  16. NO JUMPING OR FLYING TECHNIQUES IN SPARRING.
